What is Lego Lovers?
A group where your child can develop and practice language and social skills through structured play with others, including:
- Giving instructions to others
- Listening to and following instructions
- Using descriptive language
- Working as a team
- Problem-solving
- Making friends
Who is it for?
We offer a Lego Lovers group for children in early primary school (Years 1-5) usually during school holiday periods
A structured play group is a valuable environment to help children develop language and social skills. After all, kids learn through play. Playing with guidance and support from experienced speech pathologists means Lego Lovers kids are able to experiment with and practice these skills in a safe place. We support children who are neurotypical and neurodiverse to advocate for themselves and maximise their fun when playing with other children.
Lego (really any building/construction game!) is a great tool for social and language skill development. Building involves having a design or plan, following instructions, executing the plan and in the end, you have a masterpiece! By using Lego as a tool in our group, we can create jobs with specific roles. We swap these roles with each game so that the children can experience being the team leader and the worker etc.
Lego Lovers don’t just use Lego to work on these skills. In the past we have worked together to create obstacle courses, movies, zoos, and so much more!
